Senator Edgardo J. Angara is encouraging high school students to apply for scholarships with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to deepen the country's pool of S&T professionals. Angara, Chair of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, made the statement after the Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) has set the nationwide deadline for applications for the scholarships on October 21.

MANILA, Philippines — To boost the country’s drive for growth and global competitiveness, the higher educational system in the Philippines needs to be more responsive to labor market demands and the economy and address skill gaps, improve the quality of higher education graduates, and increasing research relevant to economic needs in a few universities or departments, a World Bank report suggested.
