After laying the groundwork in its previous forums, the Philippine Development Foundation continues the discussion on the pursuit of global competitiveness through scientific and technologic innovation and entrepreneurship. The current symposium will focus on education, which may be said to be the seedbed for the growth of future innovators and entrepreneurs. Invited speakers include top Cabinet officials, leading education advocates, renowned corporations and high profile philanthropists, who will touch on the latest advances in education designed to combat poverty and to stimulate economic growth.
With the theme “Accessing the Global Markets through Science and Technology: Innovations in Education,” the New York Forum, which will be held on November 7, 2011, seeks to find answers to today’s most critical issues in education, such as: Can technology deliver the promise of education?Which is more important for primary education, skillset or mindset? Can entrepreneurship really be taught? The forum also discusses whether or not we can have a truly effective and meaningful public-private sector partnership.
Invited speakers include Alan Golson, President of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro, CHED Commissioner Patricia Licuanan, DOST Secretary Mario Montejo and representatives from the IBM Foundation, Philippine Science High School system, NYU Stern School of Business, and Columbia Business School.
