BGN Registration

  1. In accessing the Brain Gain Network (BGN) website, please point your web browser to http://www2.bgn.org/
  2. For those interested to become part of the network, register for an account with BGN by clicking on the tab labeled "Register". Fill-up the necessary information in the fields provided for.
  3. Once accomplished, click the "Register" button. A notification will be sent to the e-mail address enrolled in the registry.
  4. Access your enrolled e-mail to check for the verification message in your Inbox. In case no e-mail arrives in your Inbox, please check your SPAM folder.
  5. Click on the registration verification link to redirect you to BGN"s Privacy and Terms Policy page.
  6. After agreeing to the Privacy and Terms Policy, click the "Next" button for redirection to the Password Set-Up page.
  7. Type your password and re-type it for confirmation. Afterwards, click the "Set Password" button.
  8. A message shall confirm your password and give you access to "Proceed to your home page."
  9. In the succeeding log-in sessions, you may opt to have your account details automatically registered or remembered by activating the "Remember" button.
  10. In ending one"s session, the log-out function is located at the right hand side of the webpage.
  11. For password change or update, click on the "Settings" tab and input both your old and new passwords. As soon as you"ve saved your new password, a notification will appear recognizing it.
  12. In case you have forgotten your password and would like to retrieve it, click on the "Forgot Password" tab when logging in. Fill in the required information and instructions will be sent to the e-mail you enrolled in the BGN site. In case the e-mail does not end in your inbox, please check your SPAM folder.
  13. Once you are able to access the e-mail that will aid in retrieving your password, click on the link provided by the BGN Administrator. This function will reset your password will prompt you to provide the old and new passwords.  Once you have clicked on the "Change password" function, a notification message will inform you that the new password is recognized the next time your log-in the BGN site.

Profile Information

  1. In viewing your profile, click on the "Profile" tab. It will show you your profile information and details.
  2. To update or delete your profile details, click on the "Edit" or "Add" functions to allow you to make the necessary additions or removals in any of the sections i.e. Personal & Contact, Work Experiences, Education, and Additional Information.
  3. Once you are done with editing your personal information, make sure to click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the editing page or section. The changes made will reflect on your profile.
  4. As for the Recommendations portion of your profile, you will be asked to approve or not the recommendation made for you. If you would like to change the recommendation drafted, click on the function "Request for update".
  5. To make one"s profile more interesting, provisions to upload your profile photo is available. Head to the "Settings" tab and choose or browse which photo to display and upload. Once the photo has been chosen, it will be uploaded and displayed in your BGN profile.

How to manage your BGN inbox and e-mails

  1. To access your e-mails in the BGN website, click on the "Messages" tab in the opening page. It will display the contents of your inbox.
  2. In composing a message, click on the "Compose" function at the left-hand panel of the page. This will allow you to write your e-mail.
  3. In replying to messages, click first on the e-mail. After the message appears on screen, a "Reply" button located at the right hand side will be made available for you to compose your response to the sender. The same applies for the "Reply All" function if you would like to reply to all the recipients in the e-mail.
  4. To forward messages, click first on the e-mail you would like to forward. Once the e-mail appears on screen, click on the "Forward" button at the right hand side of the screen.
  5. To delete messages in your inbox, click on the box located beside the e-mail you would like removed. Once it has been marked for deletion, click the "Delete" button located at the top and the bottom areas of your message inbox page.
  6. E-mails or messages from people who have encountered your name in the BGN website"s database will send you requests for recommendations or ask for your referral. In order to access these recommendations and referrals, open your inbox and click on either functions i.e. recommendations and referrals, to view, approve or accept.

BGN Connections

  1. To view and see your BGN connections and networks, click on the "Connections" tab.
  2. In the "Connections" page, you will be able to access the different profiles of other BGN members. Just click on the name of the person listed.
  3. To build and add connections, type the name of the person you want to connect with in the Search box above the Connections page.
  4. A list will be generated. Just click the name of the person you would like to connect with. A request will be sent to add him or her as a connection.
  5. To view all your connections, click the "All Connections" function at the right hand side of the panel. It will provide you a list of people you are connected to within the BGN site.
  6. If there are pending connections sent to you and would like to view these, click on the "Pending" function. You will have the option of approving or rejecting the requests.
  7. To organize your connections, you have the option of providing labels for them. To classify your connections, click on the "Create new label" function. Type the label name you would like to assign to your connections.
  8. Once the label has been produced, you can proceed by organizing your connections.
  9. Across each of your connections is a "Label" function. Click on this and it will generate a list of labels created.
  10. Just click on the appropriate label to assign your connection with and it will classify your connection under that label.
  11. In case you would like to revise or assign a different label to your connection, click on the "Label" function again to have the currently assigned label removed. Once the label has been removed, you can choose another label to assign to your connection by clicking on the same function.

How to manage groups in the BGN site

  1. To view groups registered in the BGN site, click on the tab "Groups". A list will be generated and displayed. In order to access more details about the group, just click on the group"s name and the group"s page shall provide you all you need to know about the group"s identity.
  2. To create your own group, under the same Groups tab click the "create a group" function. Fill in the information needed by the fields and save these. Afterwards, your group shall be created and added in the BGN list.
  3. On the other hand, in leaving a group, click on the group"s name. The group"s page shall appear on screen. A function labeled "Leave group" is located at the right panel. Click on the "leave group" function and it will allow you to be no longer affiliated with the mentioned group.
  4. In updating your group"s information, go to your group"s page and click on the editing function i.e. "edit group" located at the right-hand side panel. An update form shall appear allowing you to add or remove details about your group. Once the necessary information has been provided, click "update".
  5. In managing a group"s member pool, click the function "manage members" in your group"s homepage. Located in the same panel is also a function (i.e. "permissions") that will assign to your members specific responsibilities such as group management and access level in the group"s page.
  6. To manage the applications for your group, click on the "manage applications" function located at the right hand panel of your group"s page.

Events

  1. To view events scheduled in the BGN website, click on the tab "Events" located at the topmost portion of the webpage. It will display a list of activities posted in the site. To get more details about the activity, click on the entry itself and it will display the information sought for.
  2. In creating an event, head to the "Events" tab and click on the "Create event" function. A page allowing you to construct the details and information about the event will be displayed.
  3. Once the details are set and ready for posting, click another "Create event" function located at the bottom of the page. This activity will then be listed in BGN"s calendar of events section.
  4. To edit a posted event, click on the event itself. An edit function is available at the right hand side of the page. Click on "Edit" and it will allow you to revise details and information.
  5. When the details have been revised, click on the "Update" function located at the bottom of the page. The event or activity will appear updated in the list.
  6. To delete an event, choose the event to be removed. A "Delete" function will appear across from the chosen event. Click on "Delete" and the activity will be removed from the list.

Media

  1. To view a media or video item in the BGN website, click on the tab "Media" located at the topmost portion of the webpage. A list of media or video items will be generated. To watch the video, click on the entry itself.
  2. In creating a media article, head to the "Media" tab and click on the "Create media" function. A page allowing you to draft a media article will be displayed.
  3. After the article is composed and is ready for posting, click another "Create media" function located at the bottom of the page. This article will be posted in BGN"s media section.
  4. To edit a media article, click on the item itself. An edit function is available at the right hand side of the page. Click on "Edit" and it will allow you to revise details and information.
  5. When the details have been revised, click on the "Update media" function located at the bottom of the page.
  6. To delete a media article, choose the item to be removed. A "Delete" function will appear across it. Click on "Delete" and the news item will be removed from the list.
  7. To publish a media article, click on the item and a "Publish" function will appear across it. Click on "Publish" and the media item will be published. The same applies if you will "Unpublish" the media article.
  8. To post a comment, click on the media item itself. A page will be made available to post your comment or reaction. Once done, click on the "Post comment" function located at the bottom of the page.

News

  1. To view a news item in the BGN website, click on the tab "News" located at the topmost portion of the webpage. A list of news articles will be generated. To read more about the news article, click on the entry itself.
  2. In creating a news article, head to the "News" tab and click on the "Create news" function. A page allowing you to draft a news article will be displayed.
  3. After the article is composed and is ready for posting, click another "Create news" function located at the bottom of the page. This news article will be posted in BGN"s news section.
  4. To edit a news article, click on the item itself. An edit function is available at the right hand side of the page. Click on "Edit" and it will allow you to revise details and information.
  5. When the details have been revised, click on the "Update news" function located at the bottom of the page.
  6. To delete a news article, choose the news to be removed. A "Delete" function will appear across it. Click on "Delete" and the news item will be removed from the list.
  7. To publish a news article, click on the item and a "Publish" function will appear across it. Click on "Publish" and the news item will be published. The same applies if you would like to "Unpublish" the news article.
