Approved by the government in April 2007 (with funding from the Department of Science and Technology), the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) has components focused on MS and Ph.D. scholarships, faculty development, infrastructure development, and research and development (R&D) in the areas of ICT, Semiconductor Electronics, Energy, Environment and Infrastructure, and Agriculture with the aim of making the Philippines globally competitive. It works towards firmly establishing a culture of R&D in the country by reaching a critical mass of researchers, scientistsm and engineers, who will translate R&D into viable technology.

The year's 5th ERDT Conference aims to target 800 attendees from the academe, government, and industry.
