This is part of a Biotech Enterprise Lecture Series on the Business of Diagnostics, Vaccines & Pre-Clinical Assays by Dr. Rey Garcia, Balik Scientist 2010. This is made possible together with the Balik Scientist Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the National Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, University of the Philippines-Diliman.

Dr. Garcia will discuss both the science and business aspects of in vitro diagnostics, with particular emphasis on emerging markets and the developing world.

Dr. Rey Garcia is an independent biotech consultant. He was senior scientist at Cancer Research UK and manager of the London Biotechnology Network. He has worked on extramural projects of big pharmaceutical companies (notably, Merck & Roche Diagnostics) and has advised UK Trade & Investments, various trade bodies, investors and biopharma companies from across the globe.

For this first part of lecture series, the theme for July 27, 2010 shall focus on New Technologies in Diagnostics. Topics included are:
