This is a Special Lecture on Stem Cells by Dr. Rey Garcia, Balik Scientist 2010. This is made together with the Balik Scientist Program of the Department of Science and Technology and St. Scholastica's College Manila.
Dr. Garcia will discuss the science behind stem cell therapeutics and the hurdles impeding progress towards the clinic. Controversies surrounding the technology as well as the why of investors' "wait and see" attitude will also be explained.
Dr. Rey Garcia was senior scientist at Cancer Research UK and manager of the London Biotechnology Network. In the latter role, he brokered R&D collaborations between UK stem cell scientists and their counterparts in the US, Israel and mainland Europe.
