Market researchers and think tanks are predicting renewable energy sources to cost less than fossil fuels in the coming years, a development that should compel the government to invest in them as early as possible, said Senator Edgardo J. Angara.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara urged the government to fast track the development of a national electric vehicle industry by providing incentives for electric and hybrid car manufacturers and importers, as well as adopting an e-vehicle standards.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara said that expanding the country’s clean energy portfolio will create new avenues for investors to enter the country and help expand the growing industry in the country.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara expressed his support for the "brain gain” project to be launched by the Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE, saying that this program will revive the struggling Science & Technology (S&T) sector in the Philippines.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara, Chair of COMSTE, has identified Telehealth, which would help deliver basic medical services to remote areas through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as a national priority.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara said government should look at long term solutions to rising fuel costs instead of focusing on short term solutions like fuel subsidies for public transport operators.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara reiterated his call for the government to recognize that renewable energy (RE) is a viable long term solution that can end foreign oil dependency and lessen the impact of fossil fuel use on the environment.

Initially funded for three years with a grant of 39 million pesos by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), ICE CREAM aims to investigate climate change impacts on the coasts and adapting wisely to a changing Philippine coastal environment.

Angara said that if the country is able to harness the full potential of wind energy and other RE sources, then the country would be able to diversify the energy mix and utilize cleaner energy sources while at the same time helping to avoid a power crisis.
